Communications

Underwater cables connect Iceland to mainland telephone and internet networks in Europe and America. Plans are underway to further strengthen and extend these links.

All population centres in the country have access to high-speed fibre-optic cable services. A very high proportion of Icelanders use the internet regularly.

Populated areas and many outlying areas also enjoy reliable landline and mobile phone services.

Power

Iceland has rich resources of hydroelectric and geothermal energy which are responsibly and renewably harnessed to provide electrical power, space heating, hot water and steam for industrial, commercial and domestic use.

A modern, efficient national grid provides electricity to domestic and industrial users. Aluminium smelters and other large industrial installations may have dedicated supplies.

Utilities

Electricity, heat and water are supplied by a number of national or local utilities. A choice of providers guarantees competitive prices.
