Invest in Iceland has been actively promoting mink farming in Iceland.  In January 2011, Invest in Iceland, in cooperation with The Association of Icelandic Fur Farming and the Municipality of Skagafjordur met with numerous Dutch farmers to discuss opportunities for mink farming in Iceland.  Demonstrating the great interest in mink farming in Iceland, 35 farmers from 25 mink farms in Holland attended the event. Over 100 Danish Minkfarmers attended a meeting in Jutland to learn about possibilities in Iceland in June 2011. Invest in Iceland has made an effort since early 2010 to introduce  mink farmers in Denmark and Holland to these opportunities in Iceland.  Today the first Danish mink farmer has started his operation and we sense a growing interest from farmers in both these countries. The very competitive production cost and high quality of the Icelandic mink skins make the operating revenue one of the highest in the world.  In addition, Icelandic mink farmers would like to grow through co-investment with their peers in these countries or by inviting Dutch and Danish mink farmers to settle in Iceland and jointly take advantage of excess feed production capacity, availability of high quality feed and easy disposal of waste from production.

Invest in Iceland will continue its effort on both markets and next event is the Kopenhagen Fur International held in Herning in March, stand nr. 9686.
