Iceland's impressive profile

On the recently published IMD World Competitiveness Yearbook 2007, Iceland was ranked the 7th most competitive economy in the world -4th in Europe.

The World Competitiveness Yearbook (WCY), published annually without interruption since 1989, is the world’s most renowned and comprehensive annual report on the competitiveness of nations, ranking and analyzing how nations create and maintain an environment which sustains the competitiveness of enterprises.

The yearbook is published by IMD, an independent not-for-profit- foundation, located in Lausanne, Switzerland, ensures the WCY´s accuracy through collaboration with 58 Partner Institutes worldwide.
The WCY ranking is based on 4 basic criteria, each with 5 factors. Each factor is based on numerous data from both international and regional organizations and private institutes, and from Executive Opinion Survey (with 4,055 respondents).

By applying these criteria to a country an extensive profile is created, and the countries are then rated based on their profiles.
