Further tax reductions in Iceland

On January 1st 2007 the income tax on individuals in Iceland is reduced by 1%, the allowed tax deduction is raised and VAT on food, restaurant services, books, magazines and music is lowered.

Enex opens geothermal district heating system in China

Sustainable geothermal energy replaced coal in Xian Yang on december 3rd 2006 when ENEX-China formally opened phase I of the district heating system. The Icelandic Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mrs. Valgerdur Sverrisdottir, said she was extremely proud to note that Icelandic knowledge was contributing to keeping Chinese households warm and develop pollution-free and sustainable energy resources.

Broadband´s New King

Further Information OECD Broadband Statistics, December 2005 Iceland now leads the OECD in broadband penetration, according to 2005 broadband statistics from OECD. Iceland now has 26.7 subscribers per 100 inhabitants, ahead of Korea with 25.4, and Netherlands with 25.3. US has 16.8 broadband connections per 100 subscribers. The strongest per-capita subscriber growth came from Iceland, Finland, Norway, the Netherlands and Australia. Each country added more than 6 subscribers per 100 inhabitants during 2005.
