The world’s most influential scientists from Iceland

Although Iceland is the most sparsely populated country in Europe, it is among the top in the world regarding GDP, human development and scientists in life sciences. In a recent report, 14 researchers from Iceland were included among the most influential scientists in the world, an indicator of the growing strength of the Icelandic scientific community (Clarivate Analytics). This number is up from nine in 2018.

With five years since the first publication of the list of the world's most influential scientists list, this year’s list consists of over 4,000 scientists across 21 disciplines, which includes 17 Nobel laureates. The number of scientists and their foreign colleagues who are connected to Icelandic research institutions and companies is increasing. Many of the life science companies from Iceland are founded by biomedical and life scientists, as well as physicians.
